Wooden instrument (perhaps from the early 1900s) used instead of the bell (or bells) from Good Friday to the Easter Vigil. The instrument consisted of a central board with a handle to which two boards were tied which, once shaken, acted as a striker. It produced a dry, woody sound. Used during church ceremonies instead of bells or by altar boys around the town to announce the Easter Vigil ceremonies.
