Ceramic icon from around 1861-62 depicting the Our lady of Charity. Erected by the Moschiesi to the side of the entrance door of the "Palazzo di don Arcangelo Buonaiuto" to remember the sacrifice of Capt. Achille Belgeri (born in Genoa) commander of the Company of the 31st Reg. of the National Army of the newly formed Kingdom of Italy killed by bandits on 17 July 1861. The building located at the end of the climb of via Salita Carita' (now via Belgieri and which in 1860 was known as "localita' Santa Maria" because of teh chruch with the same name close by) overlooked the square in front of the current Church of the Incoronata. After the earthquake of 1980 it was demolished and the shrine with the icon was moved to the wall of the retaining wall of the rear part of the space that was created and now used as a car park. In removing and rebuilding it, two side tiles of the central part were inverted and rotated. The photos show the correct position and how they are currently.
